Serra Cafema Luxury Camp

Is a Premier Wilderness Camp, situated on the southern bank of the Kunene River, northern Namibia, At the foot of the Hartmann’s Valley. Situated under large, shady albida trees with uninterrupted views of the Kunene River valley. Main area comprises various dining areas, sunken lounge, library, bar, curio corner and viewing decks. Pool in main area - Fireplace in main area – Firepit - Wine cellar - In-room massage treatments (at an additional cost) - During winter months a gas heater is stationed in the main area and Chenile blankets are provided during dinner. Computer station in the main area including complimentary Internet access.


Access to Serra Cafema

Namibia's remote Kaokoland is one of our planet's most beautiful places and is now host to one of our finest safaris. Access to Serra Cafema is exclusively by light aircraft, landing on the lodge's private airsfield.

Lodging at Serra Cafema

Luxury tented rooms on a raised deck, with elevated wooden walkways.
Each room comprises of en-suite facilities with flush toilet, double vanity basin, indoor and outdoor shower, mosquito net, electronic safe and tea & coffee making facilities.
Private viewing decks overlooking the dunes, hills or the river valley.
No air-conditioning, however, up to three ceiling fans can be provided in all the rooms.
During winter hot water bottles and extra blankets are provided.
Bath robes, slippers, liquid soap, body wash, shampoo & conditioner, body lotion, room spray, insect repellents, washing powder (for smalls), sewing kit, shower caps, cotton-tip swaps, cotton balls, tissues dispensers, umbrella and laundry bag are supplied in each tent.

Activities & Excursions

Game viewing in this area is limited to herds of gemsbok, springbok and Hartmann’s mountain zebra. The Kunene River has a large population of Nile crocodiles. Burchell’s Courser and Benguela Long-billed Lark are among the characteristic bird species to be found in this area. There are also a number of endemic reptiles and the fairy circle phenomenon is best viewed in the Hartmann’s Valley.


Nature drives in Hartmann’s Valley in 4 x 10-seater open 4x4 Land Rovers each accommodating a maximum of 6 guests allowing each guest an outside seat. Guided quad biking - no children under 16 years of age.
Boating & fishing on the Kunene River (seasonal).
Guided nature walks in the valleys and at the waterfalls (seasonal & subject to qualified walking guide being available). Private activities available on request (subject to availability and additional cost). Visit to a working Himba village (small denominations of local currency cash should be carried if guests wish to purchase curio items from the Himba settlement as foreign currency, credit cards and travellers cheques are not accepted).
A full day outing can be arranged to Marienfluss Valley with a picnic lunch.
Stargazing with a laser pointer Back of House Tours.
Camp chats on area geology, Children in the Wilderness, the Kunene people and the conservancy. In-room massage treatments available at an extra cost.
Hot water bottles (during winter and on early morning nature drives only) and lined ponchos are provided on nature drives.

07:30 Depart on outing: a choice between scenic drives, walking, visiting a nearby Himba village, quad biking
and boating on the Kunene River.
Breakfast is either served in camp prior to departure or a picnic breakfast basket accompanies guests on
the morning activity.

15:00 Tea time
15:30 Depart on the afternoon activity which again is a choice of scenic drives, walking, visiting a nearby Himba
village, quad biking or boating on the Kunene River.
20:00 A three-course dinner is served in camp – Stargazing
